The Rules of Baccarat

The game of Baccarat is played using a standard deck of 52 playing cards. In a standard game, there are two hands - the Player's hand and the Banker's hand - and the goal is to guess which hand will have a higher total value.

To start the game, the dealer will deal two cards to each hand. The value of each card is determined by its face value, with the exception of face cards (J, Q, K), which are worth 10 points each, and the Ace, which is worth 1 point. If the total value of a hand exceeds 10 points, the first digit is dropped, so a hand with a total value of 15 would be worth 5 points.

Once the cards are dealt, the players have the option to bet on the Player's hand, the Banker's hand, or a tie (when both hands have the same total value). The dealer will then follow a set of rules to determine whether the Player's hand or the Banker's hand will receive an additional card.

If either the Player's hand or the Banker's hand has a total value of 8 or 9, that hand is considered a "natural" and no additional cards are drawn. If the Player's hand has a total value of 6 or 7, the Player stands and no additional cards are drawn. If the Player's hand has a total value of 0 to 5, the Player will draw an additional card.

If the Banker's hand has a total value of 0 to 2, the Banker will always draw an additional card. If the Banker's hand has a total value of 3, the Banker will draw an additional card unless the Player's third card was an 8. If the Banker's hand has a total value of 4, the Banker will draw an additional card unless the Player's third card was a 0, 1, 8, or 9. If the Banker's hand has a total value of 5, the Banker will draw an additional card unless the Player's third card was a 4, 5, 6, or 7. If the Banker's hand has a total value of 6, the Banker will draw an additional card unless the Player's third card was a 6 or 7. If the Banker's hand has a total value of 7, the Banker stands and no additional cards are drawn.

Once all the cards have been drawn, the hand with the higher total value wins.
