AION 2 Adds Auto Attune for Soul Engraving: Could Global Get It at Launch?

AION 2's Korean service has just received one of those quality-of-life changes that sounds small until you imagine doing the old version several hundred times. The September 23 update adds Auto Attune to Soul Engraving, allowing players to choose the stats they are looking for and let the game repeatedly reroll the item until one of those targets appears or the available materials run out.

For Korean players, the benefit is immediate: considerably less clicking through a repetitive gear-optimization system. For Global players, however, the update raises a more interesting question. Could Auto Attune already be part of the modified Season 1 build arriving with AION 2 Global?

NC has not confirmed that yet. But Global is explicitly not launching as a frozen copy of Korea's original Season 1, and we already know later quality-of-life and balance improvements are being brought forward. That makes Auto Attune exactly the sort of feature worth watching over the next few days.

What Is Soul Engraving Auto Attune?

Soul Engraving is one of AION 2's long-term equipment optimization systems. Gear can be attuned to produce different stat options, which means chasing the result you want can involve repeatedly spending materials and rerolling until the correct combination finally appears.

The September 23 Korean update automates much of that process.

Players can now open the Auto Attune interface and select one or more target options they are willing to accept. After registering the materials that can be consumed, the game automatically repeats the attunement process.

It stops when one of two things happens:

  • one of the selected target options appears
  • the registered materials are exhausted

In other words, the system does not improve your odds. It does not guarantee the perfect roll. It simply removes the need to manually press the same button over and over while staring at a progression screen and wondering whether this technically counts as gameplay.

You Still Need the Materials

That distinction is important.

Auto Attune is a convenience feature, not a progression shortcut. The underlying cost remains. Every reroll still consumes whatever resources Soul Engraving normally requires.

If you have enough materials for twenty attempts, Auto Attune does not mysteriously create attempt number twenty-one.

It simply performs those twenty attempts automatically until the selected condition is met.

That makes it particularly useful later in progression, when players are no longer asking whether an item is usable but whether it has exactly the combination of stats needed for a finished build.

Soul Engraving Is Also Faster Now

NC did not stop at adding the automated reroll.

The Korean patch also reduced the time required for Soul Attunement itself. That means both manual and automated attempts complete more quickly than before. The combination addresses two different sources of friction: each attempt takes less time, and players no longer need to manually initiate every attempt when chasing a known target.

The feature had already been discussed during NC's September 8 developer broadcast, where the team said the interface was complete and undergoing QA. It has now moved into the live Korean client.

Why This Matters for Global AION 2

Normally, a Korean patch arriving days before the Global version would simply be something Western players could expect several months later.

AION 2 is different.

NC has repeatedly described Global as a modified Season 1 rather than the exact version Korea originally launched with. The recent Launch Scale Test already demonstrated what that means in practice.

As we found in our comparison of AION 2 Global with Korea and Taiwan, the test client contained changes to gear stats, enhancement caps, crafting progression, Daevanion bonuses, dungeon requirements and several other systems.

Some later Korean improvements were clearly being applied to earlier Global progression.

That does not automatically mean every September Korean QoL update will appear on September 30. But Auto Attune fits the stated philosophy unusually well.

It does not add new endgame content. It does not fundamentally rebalance the economy. It does not give Global players access to a later raid or stronger equipment tier.

It simply makes an existing Season 1 progression system less tedious.

Those are exactly the kinds of changes NC has the least reason to hold back for historical authenticity.

This Would Fit Perfectly Into Global Gear Progression

We have just finished our complete AION 2 PvE gear progression guide, and Soul Engraving is one part of a much larger equipment ecosystem.

AION 2 asks players to think about gear acquisition, Enhancement, Soul Binding, Potential, Gear Transfer, Transfer Crafting and eventually more specialized optimization.

None of those systems is especially confusing once understood individually.

The complexity comes from having all of them operating at the same time.

Anything that removes unnecessary clicking from one layer therefore helps the entire gearing process feel less like administrative work.

Auto Attune does not make Soul Engraving irrelevant. Players still need to understand which stats their class wants and decide when an item is worth investing resources into.

It simply lets the game handle the mechanical repetition after that decision has been made.

It Also Reduces One of the Worst MMO Habits

Random stat reroll systems have existed in online RPGs for years, and they frequently share the same strange design ritual.

The interesting decision happens once.

You decide which stat you want.

Then you click.

Read the result.

Click again.

Read the result.

Click again.

Eventually the player stops making meaningful decisions and becomes a biological macro attached to the reroll button.

Auto Attune recognizes that distinction. The player still chooses the target and the resource budget. The game handles the repetitive execution.

It is difficult to argue that anything important is lost.

The September 23 Korea Update Is Much Bigger Than Auto Attune

Auto Attune arrived as part of a substantial September 23 Korean update rather than as an isolated patch.

The update also replaces the previous Trial with Fire Temple, introduces new Abyss mechanics, expands Sanctuary controls and adds a large collection of Chuseok events and rewards.

The Atelier received its own improvements too, including better previews for appearance items.

NC also added the new Power of the Battlefield system to parts of the Abyss, replacing several separate synergy buffs while bosses are active. Further emergency maintenance followed the same day to adjust PvP damage amplification and boss health after the initial values went live.

Most of those changes are clearly tied to Korea's current content progression and should not be expected automatically in Global Season 1.

Auto Attune is different because it improves the interface around a fundamental progression system rather than advancing the content timeline.

Global Players Should Not Assume It Is There Yet

There is a temptation whenever Korea receives a good feature to immediately turn “Korea has this” into “Global launches with this.”

We should not do that.

NC has not published complete Global launch patch notes yet, and the Launch Scale Test client is not proof of what every September 30 system will look like.

Until we see the permanent Global client or official patch notes, the correct status is:

  • Korea: Auto Attune is live as of September 23
  • Global: not yet officially confirmed

That distinction matters particularly because Global progression already differs from the current Korean game. Copying modern Korean instructions directly into Global guides can therefore produce surprisingly confident wrong answers.

Could It Arrive After Launch Instead?

Absolutely.

Even if Auto Attune is missing on September 30, NC now has a finished and live-tested version of the feature available in Korea.

There is little reason to expect Global players to wait indefinitely for it.

NC's broader Global strategy appears to be keeping the content progression understandable while selectively importing quality-of-life improvements from later Korean development. Auto Attune could therefore appear at launch, shortly afterward, or alongside the point where Soul Engraving becomes important enough for most players to care about repeated rerolls.

We simply do not know which yet.

This Is Exactly the Kind of Korea Change Global Should Get Early

AION 2 Global does not need every piece of Korea's current endgame on day one.

Starting from an earlier content season gives players time to learn the systems without inheriting a year's worth of progression immediately.

But forcing Global players to repeat old interface frustrations simply because Korean players had to endure them first would achieve very little.

Auto Attune is a good example.

It does not make your gear stronger.

It does not remove the RNG.

It does not provide free materials.

It just stops the player from manually repeating a process after they have already told the game what they want.

If NC's goal really is to launch Season 1 with a year of hindsight, Soul Engraving Auto Attune is precisely the sort of hindsight Global should benefit from.

Now we need the Global launch notes to tell us whether it will.
