AION 2 has been particularly enthusiastic about these moments. Its faster combat, demanding boss mechanics and increasingly difficult Expeditions have made survival just as important as damage. Unfortunately, the difference between an exciting challenge and an irritating one can sometimes be a single attack that removes an entire health bar before anyone has time to react.
NC's October 28, 2026 Global update addresses that problem from two directions. Every one of the eight launch classes receives additional base HP, while bosses across Expedition and Transcendence content become less punishing. Some also lose a portion of their health.
Individually, these adjustments might look like ordinary balance changes. Together, they represent a substantial shift in how forgiving AION 2's dungeon combat is intended to be.
Every AION 2 Class Gets More HP
The most immediately noticeable change is the increase to base HP at level 45. All eight classes benefit, although Gladiators and Templars receive a considerably larger increase than everyone else.
| Class | Previous HP | New HP | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | 4,702 | 6,202 | +1,500 |
| Templar | 4,702 | 6,202 | +1,500 |
| Assassin | 4,702 | 5,702 | +1,000 |
| Ranger | 4,702 | 5,702 | +1,000 |
| Sorcerer | 4,702 | 5,702 | +1,000 |
| Spiritmaster | 4,702 | 5,702 | +1,000 |
| Chanter | 4,702 | 5,702 | +1,000 |
| Cleric | 4,702 | 5,702 | +1,000 |
For Gladiators and Templars, that represents approximately 32% more base HP at level 45. The other six classes receive an increase of approximately 21%. These percentages describe the published base values, not a guaranteed percentage increase to every character's final health after equipment and additional bonuses.
The distinction between classes is deliberate. NC specifically identifies melee survivability as an important reason for the changes. Characters fighting directly in front of bosses are more frequently exposed to dangerous attacks, and extra health provides another opportunity to survive an imperfect reaction.
For Templars, the improvement reinforces their traditional role as the group's defensive foundation. Gladiators become more durable as well, particularly when maintaining pressure in close combat. Players considering either class can find a broader explanation of their strengths in our AION 2 guide to all eight launch classes.
However, the extra 1,000 HP awarded to ranged classes and healers should not be underestimated. A Sorcerer who survives an attack with a few hundred HP remaining can continue contributing damage. A Cleric who stays alive can recover the party. An Assassin who survives a positional mistake can return to the fight rather than becoming another resurrection problem.
The important difference is that players now have a little more room to make mistakes. AION 2 still expects them to learn from those mistakes, of course. It simply seems less determined to punish every imperfect dodge with immediate death.
Dungeon Bosses Are Getting Weaker Too
Additional player health is only half the story. NC is simultaneously reducing several boss statistics in Expedition and Transcendence content, which means the effective improvement to survivability goes beyond the HP increases alone.
| Content | Boss Adjustment |
|---|---|
| Normal Expedition | Attack reduced by 15% |
| Transcendence Stage 1 | Attack reduced by 15% |
| Hard Expedition | Attack and Damage Boost reduced by 10% each |
| Transcendence Stages 2–4 | Attack and Damage Boost reduced by 10% each |
| Transcendence Stages 1–2 | Boss HP reduced by 6.5% |
These reductions address two different problems. Lower boss damage makes encounters more survivable, while reduced boss HP in the first two Transcendence stages makes it easier to complete fights before Frenzy becomes a problem.
NC's patch notes explicitly describe the intention to reduce situations where less-developed characters are defeated by a single powerful attack or groups fail to defeat a boss within the available time.
That matters because dungeon difficulty is not determined entirely by how much damage a boss deals. A fight can become frustrating when survival requires near-perfect execution while the boss also demands a damage output that the group's equipment cannot reliably provide.
There is an important limitation, however. The 6.5% boss HP reduction only applies to Transcendence Stages 1 and 2. Hard Expeditions receive defensive balance adjustments, but the notes do not announce an equivalent boss HP reduction for that difficulty.
Consequently, groups that repeatedly fail Hard Expeditions because they cannot defeat the boss quickly enough will still need to improve their damage and execution. Surviving longer is useful, but an unfinished fight remains an unfinished fight.
This distinction is particularly relevant following the introduction of Krao Cave and Draupnir Hard Mode, where the four-minute Frenzy timer and limited revives create pressure on both survivability and efficiency.
Assassins Receive Two Additional Improvements
Assassins have another reason to examine the October 28 update carefully. Alongside the universal HP increase, NC is adjusting two of their abilities.
| Assassin Skill | Change |
|---|---|
| Illusive Clone | Base cooldown reduced from 90 to 60 seconds |
| Heightened Sixth Sense | HP effect increased to 1,000 / 2,000 / 4,000 at skill levels 5 / 10 / 20 |
The Illusive Clone adjustment is particularly interesting. Reducing its base cooldown by 30 seconds makes the ability available more frequently during extended encounters, potentially giving Assassins additional opportunities to use it when dangerous mechanics appear.
Heightened Sixth Sense provides another improvement to survivability, with a stronger HP effect at the specified skill levels. Combined with the increase to base HP, this gives Assassins additional defensive support without changing their fundamental identity as mobile melee damage dealers.
Players should review their skill setups and defensive rotations after the update. Our Daevanion progression guide explains why investing in useful skill levels can be more valuable than simply collecting whatever statistics happen to be available.
What the Changes Mean for Tanks, Healers and Dungeon Groups
Perhaps the most interesting consequence of the patch is how it changes the relationship between the different roles in a dungeon group.
Tanks gain a larger health reserve while bosses become less dangerous. That should make recovering from unexpected damage considerably easier, especially for characters still developing their defensive equipment.
For Clerics and Chanters, the benefit is slightly different. More HP across the entire group gives healers a better chance to respond before somebody dies. Instead of watching a teammate disappear between two healing opportunities, they may have time to stabilise the situation.
This does not automatically mean every encounter becomes easy or that healing requirements fall by a precise percentage. Boss Attack, Damage Boost, defensive statistics and actual damage calculations interact in ways that cannot be reduced to one universal number.
What changes is the margin for error. And in a game where one misplaced dodge can turn a promising dungeon run into a discussion about who should have moved first, that margin matters enormously.
Our beginner combat mistakes guide covers the positioning, dodging and defensive habits that remain essential even after these adjustments. Extra HP provides forgiveness, not immunity.
Does This Make AION 2 Too Easy?
There will always be a reasonable argument that difficult dungeons should remain difficult. Learning boss patterns, coordinating abilities and gradually improving equipment are among the great pleasures of MMORPG progression. Remove every dangerous attack and a dungeon becomes little more than a rather elaborate walking tour with loot at the end.
But there is also a difference between meaningful difficulty and excessive punishment. An encounter that allows players to recognise a mistake, recover and continue fighting can be more engaging than one that immediately removes somebody from the battle.
NC's adjustments appear aimed at that distinction. They do not remove boss mechanics, eliminate Frenzy timers or provide players with better equipment automatically. Instead, they reduce some of the punishment surrounding those systems.
For players who have been struggling to establish a reliable dungeon routine, the changes make this a sensible opportunity to revisit previously difficult content. Start with our Fast Gearing Guide if your equipment still needs work, or consult the PvE Gear Progression Guide when planning the move into more demanding endgame activities.
It is also worth reviewing defensive equipment statistics rather than assuming the HP increase makes them irrelevant. Our Manastone and Soulstone Guide explains how to approach equipment optimisation without wasting valuable materials.
And with Ludra's return scheduled for November 4, improving both survivability and group coordination remains a sensible investment.
A More Forgiving Atreia, But Not a Harmless One
The October 28 patch is one of those updates whose importance may be greater than its individual numbers suggest. Giving every class more health while reducing boss damage changes the experience of learning difficult encounters, especially for newer players and groups that have not yet perfected their equipment.
Gladiators and Templars receive the largest health increases, Assassins gain additional skill improvements, and several dungeon difficulties become more manageable. Meanwhile, the reduced boss HP in early Transcendence stages should help groups that previously struggled against prolonged encounters and Frenzy.
None of this guarantees victory. Players still need to understand mechanics, manage cooldowns and deal enough damage to finish their encounters.
But perhaps the next time a dungeon boss swings an enormous weapon in your direction, there will be just enough time to realise what went wrong before your character becomes an expensive decoration on the floor.
That seems like a reasonable improvement.
