AION 2 Server Transfer Guide: Dates, Costs, Restrictions and What You Keep

AION 2 Global's first server transfers begin October 14, and NC has finally explained how the system works. The good news? Moving is free. The bad news? Forgetting to empty your Server Storage could make the whole experience rather memorable.

Choosing a server in a new MMORPG is one of those decisions that seems wonderfully simple until your friends pick somewhere else, your Legion ends up on the wrong world, or you discover that half the population apparently had exactly the same idea. AION 2 has already experienced its share of launch congestion, with NC repeatedly expanding server capacity to accommodate the enormous Global audience. Now, beginning October 14, players finally get an opportunity to reconsider where they live.

NC published the detailed server transfer rules on October 9, covering everything from transfer dates and character requirements to storage, currencies, cosmetics and account restrictions. There are some welcome surprises here, particularly the decision to make character transfers free during the initial period. There are also several details that deserve attention before anybody starts packing their virtual belongings.

When Do AION 2 Server Transfers Start?

The first important detail is that transfers are divided into two separate weeks. Early Access players receive their opportunity first, beginning after scheduled maintenance on October 14. Players on the regular Launch Servers must wait until October 21. Both periods end with their respective weekly maintenance, meaning transfers are not available indefinitely.

  • October 14–21: Early Access servers.
  • October 21–28: Regular Launch Servers.
  • Europe: Daily transfer application windows are scheduled for 12:00–16:00 and 18:00–22:00 CEST/CET.
  • Transfer limit: One transfer per account during the entire event.

The daily windows are particularly important. Transfers are not available around the clock, and reaching October 14 does not automatically mean the service opens at midnight. Maintenance must finish first, and the transfer interface must become available. Players transferring near October 25 should also check the in-game schedule carefully because the European daylight-saving change introduces a potential difference between the published Pacific and European times.

Are AION 2 Server Transfers Really Free?

Yes, although there is one exception worth understanding. NC has confirmed that the base transfer costs 0 Quna, and transferring individual characters also costs nothing. You can move multiple eligible characters together without paying a separate fee for each one. However, the destination server must have enough available character slots to receive everybody.

If it does not, additional slots cost 1,000 Quna each. Moving six characters to a server with only four available slots, for example, requires purchasing two additional slots for 2,000 Quna. Your transfer is technically still free, but your wallet may disagree with the definition.

It is also important to understand that the service permits one transfer from one server to another per account during this event. You cannot transfer several characters to one destination, then send the remaining characters somewhere else using a second free transfer. Players managing multiple characters should plan their move before committing.

Which Servers Can You Transfer To?

AION 2's faction-specific server system creates several restrictions. Elyos characters can only move to other Elyos servers, while Asmodians must remain on Asmodian servers. Transfers must also stay within the same geographical region. A European character cannot relocate to North America, and the system cannot be used as a convenient faction-changing service.

Early Access players face an additional restriction: characters from Early Access servers can only transfer to other Early Access servers. They cannot move onto the newer October 5 Launch Servers. This preserves the separation between players who started progressing on September 30 and those who joined with the free-to-play release.

For anyone confused by AION 2's somewhat unusual server arrangement, our complete AION 2 Launch Server list explains how Elyos and Asmodian worlds are organized. You should also check the Global server region restrictions before planning a move with friends living in another part of the world.

What Happens to Your Gear, Kina and Character Progress?

Fortunately, most of your character progression follows you. Inventory items, Character Storage, equipped gear, skills, Stigmas, quests, Wings, Arcana, Abyss Points and numerous progression systems are included. Your Quna, Mileage, applicable Membership benefits and Daeva Pass progress also transfer under NC's announced rules. You are moving your established character, not creating a suspiciously familiar level-one replacement.

Server Storage is the major exception. Items and Kina stored there remain on the original server. This is not the same as Character Storage, which transfers with your character. If you have valuable crafting materials, equipment or currency sitting in Server Storage, move anything you need into your character's inventory or Character Storage before transferring.

Character-slot expansions purchased on your original server also stay behind. Meanwhile, some server-level collections and benefits, including Pets, Skins, Titles and Membership, move to the destination and are removed or reset on the original server according to the relevant transfer rules. That makes transferring only some of your characters more complicated than transferring everybody together, particularly if the characters left behind rely on shared benefits.

This is also worth considering alongside NC's recent changes to Founder’s Pack cosmetics and account-wide rewards. Cosmetic ownership may be more flexible than it was at launch, but that does not mean every server-specific benefit remains active on both servers after a transfer.

You Will Have to Choose Your Character Name Again

There is another small surprise waiting at the destination. Transferred characters receive the temporary name "@TemporaryName" and must select a name when they first log in. Even if your original name is available on the destination server, the renaming step still applies.

If somebody has already claimed your original name, you will need an alternative. Players who are particularly attached to their character identities should check their intended destination carefully and prepare a backup name. Discovering that your legendary warrior has to become MightyWarrior472 because somebody arrived three days earlier is rarely the heroic beginning anybody imagines.

How to Prepare Your Character for a Server Transfer

Before the transfer button becomes available, several eligibility requirements must be satisfied. Your character must be at least level 10 and standing in a village rather than inside a dungeon, the Abyss or a Spacetime Rift. You must also leave your Legion, withdraw any pending Legion applications and ensure you have no active Duty Missions.

The Market, mailbox and Shop Storage require attention too. Active Market listings, uncollected proceeds, outstanding items and unclaimed Shop rewards can prevent a transfer from proceeding. This includes unclaimed Founder’s Pack items. NC has made the requirements reasonably straightforward, but there is enough housekeeping involved that preparing everything five minutes before the transfer window closes is probably not the cleverest plan.

AION 2 Server Transfer Checklist

  • Reach level 10 with every character being transferred.
  • Confirm your destination is in the correct region and faction.
  • Check that you are using the correct Early Access or Launch Server transfer week.
  • Move valuable items and Kina out of Server Storage.
  • Collect outstanding Market sales, items and earnings.
  • Claim all pending mail and Shop Storage rewards.
  • Leave your Legion and cancel pending applications.
  • Finish active Duty Missions and return to a village.
  • Check destination character slots and any additional Quna costs.
  • Prepare alternative character names.

How to Transfer Servers in AION 2

Once transfers become available, open the in-game Shop and navigate to the Server Transfer section. Select your destination server and the characters you wish to move, then review the requirements and any additional slot costs. The purchase option becomes available only when the relevant conditions have been satisfied.

When the transfer begins, the game returns you to the title screen, and account login becomes temporarily unavailable until the process finishes. NC says completion takes at least a minute but may take longer when many players are transferring. Once it finishes, log in to the destination server, choose your new character names and verify that your inventory and progression are intact.

Should You Transfer or Stay Where You Are?

Not every player needs to move. AION 2 already supports cross-server instanced content, including dungeons, which means friends can participate in supported PvE activities without necessarily sharing a home server. That was one of the more useful features explained in our original free server transfer announcement, and it remains relevant now that the service is approaching.

On the other hand, sharing a Legion, participating in a particular server community or coordinating open-world activities may make moving worthwhile. Europe has already received additional capacity, including the recently opened Nathara and Tassin server pair, giving players more choices than they had during the first days of the Global launch. Just remember that destination capacity is not unlimited, and an available server today may not necessarily accept transfers throughout the entire period.

Final Thoughts

AION 2's first server transfers are a welcome opportunity to correct some of the inevitable mistakes made during a chaotic MMO launch. The service is initially free, most character progression moves with you, and the ability to transfer multiple characters together should make relocating considerably less painful.

But the details matter. Server Storage does not follow automatically, character names must be selected again, some server-level benefits leave your original world, and you only get one transfer during the event. Spending a little time checking those things before moving is considerably better than discovering them afterward.

After all, moving house in real life is miserable enough. At least in Atreia, nobody is asking you to carry a sofa down three flights of stairs.
