AION 2 Hidden Cube Guide: Best Locations, Keys, Rewards and Farming Routes

There was a time when exploring an MMORPG meant wandering away from the main road because a suspicious-looking cave, an abandoned tower or a waterfall seemed to be hiding something interesting. Sometimes you found treasure. Sometimes you found an enemy considerably larger than expected. And occasionally you discovered that the designers had simply placed a very attractive rock in the middle of nowhere.

AION 2 has remembered that particular pleasure of exploration, although it has also introduced the inevitable modern complication: treasure now comes with its own currency, upgrade materials and a rather extensive collection of possible spawn points.

Welcome to Hidden Cubes, the small glowing treasure chests concealed throughout Atreia's open world. They can appear on cliff ledges, among ruined buildings, beside rivers and in locations that seem designed to test whether players actually remember they have wings.

They are easy to overlook, surprisingly valuable and considerably more complicated than simply following a marker on your minimap.

In AION 2 Global, the current Verteron and Altgard maps contain 154 Hidden Cube spawn groups spread across 2,811 possible locations. Each cube requires a Hidden Cube Key, and opening one can provide Soul Crystals, Soul Codex materials, Silentium, Power Shards and, with considerably more luck, valuable cosmetic rewards.

For players developing their Pet Genus bonuses, Hidden Cubes are particularly attractive. One ordinary opening provides 1,000 Soul Crystals, enough for 250 basic Genus Analyze attempts before accounting for the Kina required.

But the real challenge is knowing where to look, how the spawn system works and where to obtain enough keys to make the search worthwhile.

How Hidden Cubes Work in AION 2 Global

Hidden Cubes are world objects rather than traditional quest chests. They are not automatically marked on your normal map or minimap, and they are not permanent collectibles that disappear forever after you find them.

Instead, the game uses groups of possible spawn points. A particular cube may appear at one location today and at another location when it returns.

This explains the enormous difference between the number of Hidden Cubes and the number of markers displayed by community maps.

Region Faction Cube Groups Possible Spawn Points
Verteron Elyos 95 1,440
Altgard Asmodians 59 1,371
Global Total Both Factions 154 2,811

These figures come from current Global client and community map data. They should not be interpreted as 2,811 treasure chests waiting patiently for somebody to collect them.

Each spawn group can use several possible positions, so many map markers will be empty. When another player opens a cube, it disappears from that location and eventually returns at another eligible position within its group.

The cubes are also shared between players on the same server. This means you can reach a perfectly valid spawn location and discover that somebody else has already collected the treasure.

It is a system that rewards exploration, but also makes memorising one exact location rather less useful than learning an entire area.

There is no verified fixed Global respawn timer in the currently available client data. Claims that every cube returns after a precise number of minutes should therefore be treated cautiously.

And one final regional distinction matters: some maps include Eltnen and Morheim, bringing the broader database total to 206 cube groups. Those locations belong to additional regional content and should not be confused with the 154 groups available in the current Global open-world zones.

Where to Find Hidden Cubes: Best Elyos and Asmodian Locations

Because cubes move between possible positions, there is no single perfect farming route that guarantees a chest at every stop.

What we can do is concentrate on areas containing numerous documented candidate locations, particularly when they are accessible from nearby teleport points.

For Global players, the following areas offer useful starting points.

Best Hidden Cube Areas in Verteron (Elyos)

Area Documented Possible Locations
Aullaeu Village Sky Island 64
Abandoned Wind Breeze Office 59
Illusion Oratory Entrance 52
Zumion Temple Pilgrimage Path 51
Aullaeu Village Border 47
Scarlet Forest Observation Site 46

For Elyos players, Aullaeu Village Sky Island is an interesting place to begin, with 64 documented candidate positions. The Abandoned Wind Breeze Office and Illusion Oratory Entrance are similarly promising.

The important word is candidate. Sixty-four possible positions do not mean sixty-four cubes are available simultaneously in the area. The actual number of active chests is controlled by their spawn groups.

Some locations are elevated, which makes using your wings particularly useful. Others are concealed around structures or terrain that you might normally pass without investigating.

Ellun River Midstream and the western ravine near Pamos Farm are also worth checking. Community guides identify this stretch as a useful search area, including spots near water and along the upper edges of the ravine.

Rather than running directly from one map marker to the next, explore the surrounding ledges and recessed terrain. AION 2's world is unusually fond of hiding things just above or below the obvious route.

Best Hidden Cube Areas in Altgard (Asmodians)

Area Documented Possible Locations
Temporary Investigation Base 77
Abandoned Campsite 77
Remote Island 65
Briskwind Shelter 62
Secret Rendezvous Point 54
Battlescar Mound Clifftop 49

Altgard players have several similarly dense search areas. Temporary Investigation Base and Abandoned Campsite each contain 77 documented potential positions, making them useful starting points for an organised sweep.

Remote Island and Briskwind Shelter are also worth investigating, particularly if you are already completing gathering objectives or regional exploration activities nearby.

For an alternative route, look around the stretch between Silent Hill and Tranein Pond, including nearby hunting grounds such as Fang Hideout and Temporary Retreat.

Again, these are recommended search areas rather than guaranteed treasure locations. The goal is to increase the number of eligible spawn points you can check without spending most of your evening travelling between distant corners of the continent.

For precise map markers, the Aion2.gg Hidden Cube Map and Aion2 Atlas Hidden Cube Map are useful external references. Both distinguish possible spawn positions from the actual number of cube groups.

How to Farm Hidden Cubes Efficiently

The temptation with a large interactive map is to follow every marker in numerical order. This is an excellent way to see Atreia and a rather questionable way to maximise rewards per hour.

A better approach is to build a route around accessible clusters of possible locations.

For Elyos players: begin by checking the Aullaeu Village Sky Island area, then move to another nearby cluster that is convenient from your available teleport network. Abandoned Wind Breeze Office and Illusion Oratory Entrance are useful alternative clusters to investigate, rather than assuming every area belongs to one continuous walking route.

For Asmodian players: start with Temporary Investigation Base or Abandoned Campsite, then consider Remote Island or Briskwind Shelter if the first cluster produces few results.

Once you arrive in an area, pay attention to the terrain rather than staring exclusively at the map.

  1. Bring keys first. Global cubes in Verteron and Altgard require them.
  2. Teleport near a dense cluster. Avoid beginning with a distant location just because it has an attractive-looking marker.
  3. Search above and below the main path. Cubes may appear on ledges, among ruins or near water.
  4. Watch and listen. Their glow and distinctive shimmering sound can help reveal a nearby chest.
  5. Open a cube promptly. Another player can reach the same shared object.
  6. Move between candidate positions. Do not camp an empty marker expecting a guaranteed immediate respawn.
  7. Change areas when necessary. A different cluster may be more productive than repeatedly circling an already-cleared location.

The opening interaction takes approximately four seconds, during which another player may complete their own interaction first. There is no special benefit to admiring the scenery for too long once you have found a cube.

It is also worth collecting other useful exploration rewards along the way. Empyrean Traces, for example, contribute to Monolith Resonance progression, which can itself provide additional Hidden Cube Keys.

Our 10 Things You Should Learn Early in AION 2 covers the importance of understanding exploration and progression systems before they become another collection of neglected objectives.

How to Get Hidden Cube Keys

Finding the chest is only half the problem.

In the currently available Global regions, Hidden Cubes require one Key: Hidden Cube to open. Without a key, you cannot simply claim the treasure because your character happens to be carrying an unusually impressive sword.

Fortunately, keys come from several sources.

Source How It Works
Quests Selected early and regional quests award keys.
Achievements Exploration and Hidden Cube achievements can provide additional keys.
Monolith Resonance Collect Empyrean Traces and unlock Monolith rewards.
Duty Quests Keys can appear among eligible random rewards.
Attendance Events Selected login reward calendars include keys.
Season Shop Listed at 3,000 Oath Coins each, subject to the current purchase limit.
Cash Shop Listed at 50 Quna per key, with a limit of three purchases per character per day.
A2 Mileage Shop Additional keys are available through Mileage purchases.
Season 1 Starter Pack Includes 10 bound Hidden Cube Keys.

NC's official Global attendance announcement also included two Hidden Cube Keys on the fourth and eleventh reward days of its fourteen-day login calendar. These are event rewards, so the available attendance track should always be checked in-game rather than assuming that a historical calendar remains active forever.

The Season 1 Starter Pack provides another documented source, although it is a paid bundle rather than a free farming method.

For players who prefer not to spend Quna, Monolith rewards, quests, achievements and eligible Duty rewards are the sensible places to begin.

Our Weekly Reset Guide explains how to organise limited shop purchases and other recurring progression activities. Hidden Cube Keys are worth checking alongside those supplies, particularly if you intend to spend a dedicated evening exploring.

One important storage detail: bound Hidden Cube Keys are character-specific. They can be placed in Character Storage but not Server Storage, and they cannot simply be traded to another player.

That makes it worth deciding which character you want to use before collecting keys from limited sources.

Hidden Cube Rewards: Soul Crystals, Soul Codex, Kina and Rare Cosmetics

The reward table explains why Hidden Cubes remain worth hunting even after you have finished the surrounding story quests.

According to Global client loot data, a standard keyed opening contains several reliable progression rewards, along with additional items determined by random rolls.

Reward Amount or Chance
Soul Crystals 1,000 per cube
Silentium 10 guaranteed, with chances for 2 more
Soul Codex 5 per cube
Power Shards 100–200, depending on the reward roll
Seed of Detection 1 per cube
Small Odyle Energy Additional random reward
Soul Codex: Reset Additional random reward
Lucky Aura Additional random reward
Cosmetic Skins and Wings Rare rewards
Emote: Kurukuru Very rare reward

The most valuable guaranteed reward depends on what your character currently needs.

For some players, it will be the Soul Crystals. For others, the Soul Codex materials are more immediately useful. And Silentium is valuable because it can be sold to an NPC merchant for bound Kina or used through certain supply-related activities.

Ten Silentium items at the documented vendor value of 5,000 bound Kina each represent at least 50,000 bound Kina per cube, before the additional random Silentium rolls.

That is not the same as earning freely tradable Market currency, but it can still help cover everyday character expenses.

Our Soul Binding Guide explains why Soul Codex and Reset materials become increasingly useful as you improve higher-grade equipment.

The rare rewards are more glamorous. The current client reward list includes Radiant Love Wings, several jewellery and helm appearances, Lucky Aura variants and the Kurukuru emote.

Some of these cosmetic items may be tradable, making them interesting to collectors and Market-focused players. But they are rare drops rather than something you should expect from every chest.

The documented Global loot probabilities include approximately a 1% chance for Radiant Love Wings and a 0.1% chance for the Kurukuru emote. Those values come from client-data analysis and should be checked against current official probability disclosures if updated.

Hunting twenty cubes because you enjoy exploration is sensible enough. Spending all your Quna on keys while assuming a rare wing appearance is guaranteed would be a considerably less convincing plan.

Why Hidden Cubes Are So Good for Pet Genus Insight

For long-term character progression, Soul Crystals may be the strongest reason to collect Hidden Cubes.

Pet Genus Insight allows players to improve permanent stat bonuses associated with their collected pet families. It uses Soul Crystals for the Analyze system, where individual attempts reroll available bonuses and contribute progression experience.

A basic Analyze costs four Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kina.

Because a Hidden Cube provides 1,000 Soul Crystals, the relationship is unusually straightforward:

Hidden Cubes Opened Soul Crystals Basic Analyze Attempts Funded
1 1,000 250
3 3,000 750
5 5,000 1,250
10 10,000 2,500

Of course, that calculation covers only the Soul Crystals. At 1,000 Kina per basic Analyze, 250 attempts also require 250,000 Kina. Locking particular Genus stat lines increases the cost further.

Our Pet & Genus Insight Guide explains exactly why you should avoid locking ordinary stat rolls too early, how to reach higher Insight levels and which bonuses are worth pursuing.

This makes Hidden Cubes particularly useful for players who have already established a decent equipment set and want to develop more permanent sources of character power.

Equipment changes. Dungeon rewards become obsolete. A weapon that looks spectacular today may become little more than Transfer Stone material next month.

Permanent character progression is rather less disposable.

And that is why a small glowing chest hidden behind a tree can sometimes offer more long-term value than a rather impressive monster carrying a very large axe.

Hidden Cube Mistakes Worth Avoiding

The first mistake is assuming that every marker on an interactive map represents an active chest. The 2,811 documented Global positions are possibilities, not a collection of guaranteed simultaneous spawns.

The second is confusing versions of the game. Some guides describe free-to-open Hidden Cubes in Eltnen or Morheim. Those descriptions relate to additional regional content and should not be applied automatically to Global's current Verteron and Altgard zones, where the documented cube objects require keys.

Third, do not treat Hidden Cubes as ordinary one-time collectibles. Empyrean Traces can be tracked as completed exploration objectives, but Hidden Cubes respawn and move. A previously opened cube is not permanently removed from your farming opportunities.

Fourth, remember that locating a chest does not reserve it for you. Hidden Cubes are shared world objects, and another player can finish opening one first.

Fifth, avoid spending premium currency without considering the expected value. The guaranteed Soul Crystals and Soul Codex materials may justify using keys earned through normal play, but purchasing large quantities of keys solely to chase rare cosmetics introduces a considerable element of chance.

Finally, do not neglect the other exploration activities surrounding your route. Collecting Empyrean Traces, completing useful regional objectives and identifying nearby gathering opportunities can make an ordinary cube hunt considerably more productive.

Our Daevanion Guide explains how exploration and regional activities contribute to permanent character development through a separate progression system.

A good farming session is not always the one where you open the most treasure chests. Sometimes it is the one where you accomplish several worthwhile things while searching for them.

Are Hidden Cubes Worth Farming?

For players with spare keys, absolutely worth considering.

A single Hidden Cube offers a substantial amount of Soul Crystals, useful Soul Codex materials and bound Kina value through Silentium. There is also the possibility of finding rare cosmetic rewards, which adds a little old-fashioned treasure-hunting excitement to an otherwise very practical activity.

The limitation is that keys are finite and cube locations are not guaranteed. A character carrying twenty keys is prepared for a productive farming session, but preparation does not mean every map marker will contain treasure.

The best strategy is therefore to collect keys through normal progression, learn a few dense search areas near convenient teleports and combine Hidden Cube hunting with your broader exploration activities.

For Elyos, that may mean beginning around Aullaeu Village Sky Island or the Abandoned Wind Breeze Office. For Asmodians, Temporary Investigation Base and Abandoned Campsite provide useful concentrations of documented spawn positions.

Then explore properly. Look around the ruins. Check suspicious ledges. Investigate the places that seem a little too carefully designed to contain absolutely nothing.

AION 2 spends a great deal of time encouraging players to rush towards the next dungeon, the next Item Level requirement and the next major boss. Hidden Cubes offer a pleasant reminder that sometimes the world itself has something worth finding.

Even if that something turns out to be hidden behind a rock that you have walked past seventeen times.

Which is, when you think about it, a fairly traditional MMORPG experience.
