AION 2 Raw Leather Farming Guide: Best Places After the October 7 Buff

Raw Leather is Common.

AION 2 apparently uses the word "common" rather differently from the rest of us.

The crafting material has quickly become one of the more irritating early bottlenecks in the Global version, particularly if you are trying to process Strong Leather rather than simply throwing every crafting material into storage and promising yourself you will understand the system later. The good news is that NC has already reacted. The October 7 patch increased Raw Leather drop rates in Verteron, Altgard and the Chaotic Lower Level of Reshanta, making all three areas more attractive farming options than they were at launch.

This guide covers where to farm Raw Leather now, which monsters are worth watching for, when the Market is actually the smarter option and how to avoid spending an hour killing the wrong things for a material that stubbornly insists it is Common.

What Drops Raw Leather in AION 2?

Raw Leather is a crafting material obtained primarily from monsters. Global game data currently lists a large number of creatures capable of dropping it, ranging from relatively low-level enemies in the starter regions to creatures in Reshanta.

For farming purposes, however, the exact monster matters less than three things: monster density, kill speed and respawn speed. A monster with a slightly better theoretical drop chance is not particularly useful if you spend half the session flying between two spawn points.

That is also why the October 7 change matters. NC specifically increased Raw Leather drops in Verteron, Altgard and Chaotic Lower Reshanta, which means these are the regions we would currently prioritize when farming rather than building a route around old pre-patch assumptions.

Best Early Raw Leather Farm: Verteron

For Elyos characters, Verteron is probably the easiest place to start because the mobs are plentiful, travel is simple and several areas allow you to clear tightly packed groups without much downtime.

Western Cantas Valley is a particularly convenient option. Look for groups of Stonebeak Crestlich and Gentle Popoku around the area east of Coastal Camp. The individual enemies are not exciting, which is precisely the point. You want a route where you can keep killing rather than waiting around for one allegedly magnificent leather-producing animal to respawn.

Garden of the Illusion God is another useful circuit, particularly around the Confused Ursus populations, while Pilgrim's Ridge offers Ridge Ursus and other tightly grouped targets. Rotate between clusters rather than standing on a single spawn.

The October 7 buff should make this kind of high-volume farming noticeably more useful than it was during the first days of launch.

Best Altgard Raw Leather Farming

Asmodians get the same basic advantage in Altgard. The October 7 patch explicitly increased Raw Leather drops here as well, so there is little reason to drag an early character somewhere inconvenient purely because an older database page shows a slightly different percentage.

Dense animal populations are your friends. Slinks, Karnifs, Coradons and similar creatures appear throughout Altgard and can provide Raw Leather while also giving the usual assortment of gear and other materials.

Moslan Forest deserves particular attention because it also contains Predator Garsan, one of the named enemies associated with a much higher Raw Leather drop chance than ordinary monsters. Treat Garsan as a bonus while farming the surrounding area rather than building your entire route around waiting for a named spawn.

This is an important distinction. The best farming route is usually the one where something is dying every few seconds.

Named Monsters Can Drop Much More Raw Leather

Several named level 45 enemies have dramatically better Raw Leather chances in the current Global game data.

  • Furious Saursus – Night Dew Cave, Verteron
  • Bloodfang Pnyn – Northern Tolbas Forest, Verteron
  • Predator Garsan – Moslan Forest, Altgard
  • Blooming Korin – Ellun River Midstream, Verteron

Database values currently place several of these named targets around the 50 to 60 percent range, massively above normal trash mobs. There is an obvious catch: named enemies have longer respawns and may already be dead when you arrive.

So mark them when convenient, kill them when available, and then continue farming. Do not stand around waiting ten minutes because a spreadsheet says one monster is mathematically superior.

Chaotic Lower Reshanta Is the Endgame Alternative

Once you are comfortably farming higher-level content, Chaotic Lower Reshanta becomes another strong option. NC specifically included the zone in the October 7 Raw Leather buff, and multiple Abyss creature families there can drop the material.

Abyss Karnifs, Slinks, Coradons, Swarms and related mobs all appear in the current drop tables. Some have historically shown better individual rates than ordinary Verteron and Altgard enemies, although the exact post-patch numbers are still settling and NC did not publish the new percentages.

That last point is important. The October 7 patch confirms that drops were increased. It does not provide new numerical drop rates, so treat old database percentages as a useful indication of where Raw Leather comes from rather than a guarantee of the exact chance you will see today.

Do Not Ignore Shulak Loot Bundles

Raw Leather can also appear from Shulak Loot Bundles. These are not something we would specifically farm only for leather, but if you already have bundles sitting in storage, open them before spending Kinah at the Market.

AION 2 has enough conversion systems and material containers that selling or ignoring items before checking what they contain is generally dangerous. We covered the same principle in our 10 AION 2 Things You Should Learn Early guide, particularly when dealing with materials that can feed several different progression systems.

Sometimes Buying Raw Leather Is Better

There is no medal for farming everything personally.

Raw Leather is tradable, which means the Market can sometimes be the most efficient source, particularly if you only need a small amount to finish a crafting batch. Check the current unit price before committing to a long farming session.

If twenty minutes of normal gameplay earns enough Kinah to buy the leather that would otherwise take forty minutes to farm, the game has already answered the question for you.

The opposite is also true. Launch-week crafting demand can send prices upward quickly, and today's October 7 drop-rate increase should gradually put more Raw Leather into circulation. Before buying a large stack, compare prices rather than assuming yesterday's market value still makes sense.

What Is Raw Leather Used For?

The main reason demand remains high is Strong Leather. Raw Leather is processed into Strong Leather through crafting, which then feeds armor-related production.

Raw Leather can therefore become one of those seemingly minor materials that suddenly matters once you begin following AION 2's longer crafting progression. If you are starting to invest seriously in gear rather than simply replacing quest rewards, our AION 2 PvE Gear Progression Guide explains how crafting eventually connects to Dragon Lord gear, Enhancement and Transfer Crafting.

You should also avoid turning every Raw Leather drop into an immediate crafting project simply because you finally have some. As with Enhancement materials, the useful question is always whether today's investment moves the character toward the next meaningful progression point. Our Fast Gearing Guide covers that route in considerably more detail.

The Best Raw Leather Farming Strategy After the Patch

If you simply want the shortest version, use this route:

  • Farm dense packs in Verteron or Altgard while leveling.
  • Kill named Raw Leather targets whenever they are conveniently available.
  • Move into Chaotic Lower Reshanta once your character can farm there efficiently.
  • Open existing Shulak Loot Bundles before buying materials.
  • Check the Market when you only need a small amount.
  • Prioritize kills per minute over chasing one supposedly perfect monster.

The October 7 patch should make all of this considerably less miserable than it was at Global launch.

Raw Leather may finally be approaching the point where the word "Common" can be used without everybody laughing.
