AION 2 Launch Patch Changes Character Deletion, Boss Difficulty and More

AION 2's Advanced Access period is ending with considerably more than somebody simply flipping the free-to-play switch.

NC has taken the servers down for an eight-hour maintenance ahead of the October 5 commercial launch, and the accompanying patch includes a surprisingly useful collection of quality-of-life changes, bug fixes and balance adjustments. Character deletion becomes dramatically faster, the AFK timeout is being extended, quest objects should become less irritating to interact with, several five-player bosses are getting stronger, and the strange Level 45 Duty bug we warned about yesterday is finally being fixed.

Maintenance began at 07:00 CEST on October 5 and is scheduled to last eight hours, putting the planned reopening at approximately 15:00 CEST. That is also when the new free-to-play population can begin joining the new October 5 Launch Servers.

Character Deletion Drops From Seven Days to 24 Hours

One of the biggest practical changes concerns character deletion. Until now, deleting a character involved a 168-hour waiting period. That is seven entire days, which is a fairly impressive commitment to regretting a character name.

After the launch patch, that waiting period drops to just 24 hours. NC is also lowering the minimum level required to delete a character from Level 10 to Level 1.

That should make early experimentation much less painful, particularly for new players who choose the wrong server, faction or character appearance during launch. Server choice still matters, of course, especially because free server transfers do not begin until October 14 and Advanced Access characters cannot transfer onto the new Launch Servers.

The AFK Timeout Is Getting Much More Generous

NC is also changing what happens when a player leaves the game unattended.

The timer before an inactive player is redirected back to the server selection screen is increasing from 30 minutes to three hours.

That is a substantial difference and should be particularly welcome during launch, when stepping away for dinner should no longer mean returning to discover that your character has quietly been evicted from Atreia.

In-game announcements are also getting more screen time, increasing from three seconds to ten seconds. Not revolutionary, perhaps, but considerably more useful for those of us who require longer than the reflexes of a caffeinated teenager to read a system message.

Quest Objects Should Be Less Annoying

The patch also addresses one of the less glamorous problems of launching an MMO with a very large population: everybody trying to interact with the same object.

NC says interactions with objects required for quest progression are being improved. Some objects will no longer disappear after another player uses them, while others will return faster after being activated.

That change arrives at a sensible moment. AION 2 already passed 171,530 concurrent Steam players during Advanced Access, and that figure did not include PURPLE users. The full free-to-play launch is about to add another wave of players to the same early quest areas.

Some Five-Player Bosses Are Getting Buffed

Not every change makes life easier.

NC says the stats of several bosses are currently too low for the intended difficulty of five-player party content, so those encounters are being adjusted upward.

The patch notes do not specify every affected boss or provide individual stat changes, which means players should expect some group encounters to feel harder once the servers return. If you are already entering the dungeon progression loop, our AION 2 Fast Gearing Guide covers the upgrade priorities worth sorting out before throwing expensive materials at temporary equipment.

It is also a useful reminder that Advanced Access has effectively doubled as a very large live balance test. If five-player bosses are dying too easily, NC now has enough real-world data to start tightening them up.

The Level 45 Duty Bug Is Being Fixed

Yesterday we warned players not to open the Duty tab before reaching Level 45. Doing so could prevent Duties from becoming available immediately after hitting the required level, forcing players to wait until the following day.

That workaround should no longer be necessary after today's patch.

NC specifically lists the Journal Duty issue among the bugs being fixed, so players should once again be free to explore menus without accidentally sabotaging tomorrow's progression. A small victory for curiosity.

Quest Blockers and the Vanguard Title Are Also Fixed

The update contains several smaller fixes as well. Characters occasionally snapping back to their previous position while using Auto Move near other players should be corrected, and a duplicate Content entry in the Key Settings menu is being removed.

NC is also fixing an issue where closing the client during certain quests could prevent subsequent progression. Players stuck while moving through the Poeta or Ishalgen Hero Quests will receive a Quest Tracker option allowing them to teleport to Verteron or Altgard.

Finally, the English client incorrectly displayed the Vanguard of Atreia title as Shaper of Heavens after players obtained it. That naming error is being corrected as part of the same update.

The Real Launch Starts After Maintenance

Most of these changes are not enormous individually, but together they make this a much more substantial launch patch than a simple server opening.

Character management becomes less punishing, AFK players get more breathing room, quest bottlenecks should improve, one annoying progression bug disappears and some group bosses are being pushed closer to their intended difficulty.

Advanced Access gave NC five days of players finding all the places where AION 2 bends, breaks or simply behaves strangely.

Now the doors open for everyone.

AION 2 Launch Server List: Every New Server Opening October 5

AION 2 is about to open the gates properly.

NC has now published the complete server lineup for the October 5 free-to-play Global launch, revealing another 44 individual servers across 22 Elyos and Asmodian pairs. These new Launch Servers will exist alongside the Advanced Access worlds that have already been running since September 30.

For anyone who skipped the Founder's Pack and has been waiting for free-to-play, this is the important list. AION 2 launches globally on October 5 at 13:00 UTC, or 15:00 CEST in Central Europe, following the scheduled pre-launch maintenance. You can find the wider timing details in our AION 2 launch time guide.

More importantly, you should decide your region and faction before staring at the server screen tomorrow and discovering that everybody in your Discord has somehow chosen something different.

How AION 2 Servers Work

AION 2 does things slightly differently from many MMOs. Each individual server belongs to one faction only. Elyos and Asmodians do not simply create characters on opposite sides of the same world.

Instead, an Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server for cross-faction activities such as the Abyss and Spacetime Rifts. We explained the system in more detail when NC revealed the first Advanced Access server matchups.

When you log in, the order is therefore:

  1. Choose your region.
  2. Choose Elyos or Asmodian.
  3. Choose one of the servers available to that faction.

The server pair determines which opposing community you are likely to encounter in faction PvP, although NC can periodically change matchmaking to improve faction balance.

Europe Launch Servers

Europe receives by far the largest new lineup, with nine new server pairs opening for the October 5 launch.

Elyos Asmodian
NaniaHadala
TahabataEldra
LuterosUlgorn
PhernosMunin
DaminuOdar
KasikaZemurru
BakarmaKromede
TsenkaNai
KochiBaba

These sit alongside Europe's existing Advanced Access servers, which expanded rapidly during the opening days. We recently covered how NC added 12 extra Advanced Access servers across Europe and North America after queues and player demand grew faster than expected.

Europe now has a genuinely enormous selection, which should hopefully prevent every new player from immediately

AION 2 Steam Listing Points to an October 5 Launch at 13:00 UTC

We have known for weeks that AION 2 launches globally on October 5, 2026. What we have not known is exactly when on October 5 thousands of players will be allowed through the gates. Steam may now have given us the first real answer.

The release timestamp attached to AION 2's Steam listing currently points to 13:00 UTC on Monday, October 5. That would put the global free-to-play release at 6:00 AM on the US West Coast, 9:00 AM on the East Coast, 2:00 PM in the UK and 3:00 PM CEST across much of Central Europe. Japan would get the game at 10:00 PM local time. ([aion2hub.com](https://aion2hub.com/news/aion-2-launch-time-october-5))

There is, however, one very important distinction: NC has not officially announced the launch hour yet.

Steam's public store page confirms October 5 and currently shows AION 2 as “Coming Oct 5, 2026,” but the actual 13:00 UTC timestamp comes from Steam's underlying release data rather than a separate announcement from NC. ([store.steampowered.com](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3393110/AION_2/))

What Time Could AION 2 Launch?

If the current Steam timestamp remains unchanged, AION 2 would unlock at:

  • US West Coast: 6:00 AM PDT
  • US East Coast: 9:00 AM EDT
  • Brazil: 10:00 AM BRT
  • United Kingdom: 2:00 PM BST
  • Central Europe: 3:00 PM CEST
  • Eastern Europe: 4:00 PM EEST
  • Japan: 10:00 PM JST

For Denmark, Germany, France and most of Central Europe, that would mean 15:00 on October 5.

The timing also makes reasonable operational sense for a global MMO release. It places North America in the morning, Europe in the afternoon and Japan in the evening, giving NC a launch window where its major global regions can all enter during normal waking hours.

Reasonable does not mean confirmed, though.

Why We Should Not Set an Alarm Quite Yet

Steam timestamps can change before release. Publishers sometimes use preliminary values while final server schedules, maintenance periods and launch operations are still being decided.

There is also an important difference between Steam unlocking the game client and NC opening the AION 2 servers. The two may happen at exactly the same moment, but NC has not yet said that they will.

A launch-day maintenance window has not been announced either.

So while 13:00 UTC is currently the most precise launch time available anywhere, we would not recommend arranging annual leave, childcare and an emergency supply of coffee around it just yet.

The date is official. The hour is still effectively provisional.

Advanced Access Still Has No Confirmed Start Time

The bigger mystery concerns September 30.

All three AION 2 Founder's Packs include five days of Advanced Access, and Steam clearly states that Advanced Access begins September 30. But there is currently no official start hour attached to it. ([store.steampowered.com](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3393110/AION_2/))

That means we should not automatically assume Advanced Access also starts at 13:00 UTC.

It might. It would certainly be tidy. But NC has not said so.

We already covered the wider release schedule in our AION 2 global release date guide, while players still deciding whether to enter five days early can also see our breakdown of the differences between playing through Steam and PURPLE.

The September 30 Start May Be More Important Than October 5

For Founder's Pack players, September 30 is effectively launch day.

Those characters are permanent, progression carries forward and the Special Quai Membership systems become relevant in a way they never did during the temporary Launch Scale Test.

NC has also confirmed that Advanced Access uses its own initial server wave before additional launch servers become available on October 5, so knowing the exact September 30 start time will matter to anyone coordinating guilds, friends and server selection.

After seeing 73,761 concurrent Steam players during the Launch Scale Test, it is not unreasonable to expect a fairly busy opening period.

And unlike the test, nobody will be casually deleting these characters six hours later.

13:00 UTC Is Our Best Estimate, Not Yet an Official Announcement

For now, the launch calendar looks like this:

  • September 30: Founder's Pack Advanced Access begins, time not yet announced
  • October 1 to October 4: Advanced Access continues
  • October 5: Full free-to-play global launch
  • 13:00 UTC on October 5: Current Steam release timestamp

NC's latest post-test communication still lists only “Advanced Access September 30 to October 4” and “Official Launch October 5,” with no clock time attached. ([steamcommunity.com](https://steamcommunity.com/app/3393110))

That makes the Steam timestamp useful, but not final.

If nothing changes, most European players could be entering AION 2 at 15:00 CEST on October 5.

Now we just need NC to say it out loud.
