AION 2 Launch Server Transfers Begin October 21: Free Moves, New Start Time and Final Checklist

Moving house is rarely enjoyable. There are boxes to pack, things you have forgotten in cupboards and the uncomfortable possibility that somebody else has already taken the place you wanted. AION 2 has somehow managed to recreate the entire experience, including the paperwork, without anybody having to carry a sofa.

And for players on the regular Global Launch Servers, moving day is almost here.

AION 2 Launch Server transfers begin Wednesday, October 21, 2026, following scheduled maintenance, with free transfers available until maintenance on October 28. NC has also issued an important last-minute schedule adjustment: the first European application window on October 21 will begin at 14:00 CEST rather than the usual 12:00.

The change was confirmed in an October 20 update to NC's official transfer notices. It is a small detail, but an important one for players hoping to move as soon as the service becomes available. Particularly because transfer capacity is limited, and the destination server you want may not remain available throughout the week.

AION 2 Launch Server Transfer Times: October 21–28

The initial transfer event has been divided into two separate periods. Early Access characters received their opportunity from October 14 to October 21, while characters created on the October 5 Launch Servers get their turn from October 21 to October 28.

For European players, the standard daily transfer windows are 12:00–16:00 and 18:00–22:00, using the applicable Central European time. However, NC's latest notice makes an exception for the first round on October 21.

Transfer Detail European Schedule
Launch Server transfers begin October 21, after maintenance
First application window, October 21 14:00–16:00 CEST
Second window, October 21 18:00–22:00 CEST
Normal daily application windows 12:00–16:00 and 18:00–22:00
Launch Server transfers end October 28, before maintenance

Europe changes from summer time to winter time on October 25, so the published local windows should be read as CEST before the change and CET afterwards. Other regions have different application hours, and maintenance-related adjustments can affect the schedule.

Players who followed our original AION 2 Server Transfer Guide will already know the basic restrictions. The important new information is the revised October 21 opening time, together with NC's increasingly clear warning that available places are not unlimited.

Are AION 2 Server Transfers Really Free?

Yes. NC has confirmed that the base server transfer costs 0 Quna, with no additional transfer fee for each eligible character included in the move.

There is, however, one possible expense. If your destination server does not have enough available character slots, you can purchase additional slots for 1,000 Quna each, subject to the server's slot limit.

For example, transferring six characters to a destination where only four slots are available would require two additional slots, costing 2,000 Quna. The actual transfer remains free, although your wallet may reasonably disagree with the terminology.

More importantly, NC allows one server transfer per account during the entire event. You may transfer multiple eligible characters together, but the service is not designed for repeatedly moving different groups of characters between several worlds.

Choose your destination carefully. This is not an opportunity to spend the week touring Atreia's server population like a particularly indecisive tourist.

Which Launch Servers Can You Transfer To?

Transfers are restricted by region, faction and server category. Elyos characters must remain on Elyos servers, while Asmodian characters must move to other Asmodian servers. European players cannot transfer into North American regions, and Early Access characters cannot move onto the regular Launch Servers.

This is particularly important for friends trying to reunite after AION 2's rather chaotic opening weeks. Before anybody moves, agree on the exact destination and confirm that everybody is eligible to join it.

Our complete AION 2 Launch Server List covers the original Global lineup, while our report on the additional Nathara and Tassin servers explains how NC expanded Europe's available worlds after launch.

Just remember that appearing on a server list does not guarantee that the destination currently accepts transfers.

Why You Should Not Wait Until October 28

NC has confirmed that each server has separate limits for incoming and outgoing transfers. If your current server has reached its outgoing capacity, or your preferred destination has reached its incoming capacity, the request cannot proceed.

Transfer availability is refreshed every hour on the hour, but that does not guarantee every destination will reopen. A heavily requested server may become unavailable before the advertised event deadline.

We covered this warning in our earlier report on AION 2 server transfers potentially closing early. For players moving individually, a full server is inconvenient. For an entire group of friends, it can become considerably more complicated.

Imagine half your group completing the transfer while the others discover that the destination has stopped accepting characters. It is the sort of situation that can turn a perfectly reasonable evening into several hours of Discord discussions nobody particularly wanted.

If you already know where you want to move, preparing everything before the first available window is the sensible approach.

What to Do Before Transferring: The Essential Checklist

Most transfer problems are not particularly mysterious. They usually involve something left behind, an unfinished activity or a character standing somewhere NC does not consider suitable for moving house.

Before opening the Server Transfer interface, make sure you have completed the following:

  • Check your level: Characters must be at least level 10.
  • Return to a village: Transfers cannot be requested while inside a dungeon, the Abyss or a Spacetime Rift.
  • Leave your Legion: Characters cannot transfer while belonging to a Legion or having a pending membership application.
  • Complete active Duty Missions: These must be cleared before applying.
  • Empty your Market obligations: Collect items, sales proceeds and anything still listed for sale.
  • Check your mailbox: Collect outstanding mail and attached rewards.
  • Claim Shop Storage items: This includes unclaimed Founder's Pack rewards.
  • Move important items out of Server Storage: Transfer them into the moving character's inventory or Character Storage.
  • Check destination character slots: Additional slots may cost Quna.
  • Prepare a backup character name: Your original name might already be taken.

The Server Storage warning deserves particular attention. Character Storage moves with your character, but items left in Server Storage do not. The same distinction applies to Kina. Currency carried by the character or held in Character Storage transfers, while Kina left in Server Storage remains behind.

That is an unpleasant discovery to make after completing a transfer, particularly if you have spent the last three weeks collecting materials for an expensive upgrade.

Players managing several characters should also review our Odyle Energy and Server Transfer Update, which explains the temporary shop purchase-limit adjustments introduced during the migration period.

What Happens to Your Character Name, Gear and Progress?

Fortunately, most of your character's important progress moves with you. Equipped items, inventory, Character Storage, applicable currencies, skills and progression systems are covered by NC's transfer rules. Active Membership benefits and Daeva Pass progress also transfer according to the official Q&A.

There is one unusual detail: every transferred character receives the temporary name @TemporaryName, regardless of whether the original name is available on the destination server.

When you first log into the transferred character, you must choose a name again. If your previous name is already taken, you will need something different.

This may be particularly disappointing for players who spent twenty minutes creating the perfect character name and have subsequently become emotionally attached to it. At least nobody is forcing you to redesign the character's face as well.

NC also confirms that Friends and Blocked lists are retained, while your character's updated name is reflected in friends' lists. Some server-specific collections and purchase limits have special transfer rules, so players maintaining characters on both servers should consult the official Q&A before moving.

How to Transfer Your Character on October 21

Once the relevant application window opens and maintenance is complete, the transfer process is handled through the in-game Shop.

  1. Log into AION 2 during your region's scheduled transfer hours.
  2. Open the In-Game Shop.
  3. Select Server Transfer.
  4. Choose an eligible destination server.
  5. Select the eligible characters you want to move.
  6. Review the requirements, destination slots and any additional slot costs.
  7. Confirm the transfer when the purchase option becomes available.
  8. Once the process finishes, log into the destination server and complete character renaming.

If the interface says Server Transfer is unavailable, it does not automatically mean something is broken. You may be outside the application hours, your current server may have exhausted its outgoing allowance, or the destination may have reached its incoming limit.

The official interface should notify players when a selected server cannot accept transfers. Checking again during a later application window may help if capacity becomes available, but it is not a guaranteed solution.

Should You Move or Stay on Your Current Server?

There is no reason to transfer simply because the service is free. If your current server has an active community, your Legion is established and you are happy with your friends, staying where you are may be the better decision.

On the other hand, transferring makes sense if your group was separated during launch, you have joined a community based elsewhere or you want to relocate to a server that better suits your play schedule.

It is also worth remembering that AION 2 supports cross-server participation in certain instanced activities. Not every friendship requires everybody to live on exactly the same server, although shared Legion activities and local server communities can make the distinction important.

Our earlier article on the announcement of free Global server transfers explains how the system emerged from the enormous demand surrounding AION 2's launch.

For players who have already decided to relocate, the immediate priorities are simple: choose a destination, prepare your characters, clear your storage and remember the revised opening time.

European Launch Server transfers begin at 14:00 CEST on October 21. The free transfer period is scheduled to finish before maintenance on October 28, although individual servers may reach their limits sooner.

With a little preparation, moving to another world should be reasonably painless.

And unlike moving house in real life, there is at least a reasonable chance that nobody will ask you to carry a wardrobe up the stairs.
