AION 2 Warns Server Transfers May Close Early as Capacity Limits Take Effect

Moving house is rarely a pleasant experience. There are boxes to pack, things you inevitably forget, and the uncomfortable discovery that the place you wanted to move to may no longer have room for you. AION 2 has managed to recreate much of this experience without requiring anybody to lift a sofa.

NC has issued a new warning that AION 2 Global's free server transfers may close before their advertised deadlines if individual servers reach their capacity limits. The announcement, published October 14, confirms that both outgoing and incoming transfers are restricted by server-specific quotas. And for players hoping to join friends or move an entire Legion, waiting until the final day could prove rather unfortunate.

Server Transfers Have Limited Capacity

The original announcement made AION 2's first server transfers sound reasonably straightforward. Early Access players could move between October 14 and 21, while characters on the regular Launch Servers would receive their opportunity from October 21 to 28. The service is free, provided players meet the requirements and do not need additional character slots.

We covered those conditions in our complete AION 2 Server Transfer Guide, including the restrictions involving factions, regions, character storage and the slightly alarming number of things that must be cleared before leaving.

Now NC has clarified an important detail. Every server has a limited number of transfers it can accept and a separate limit on transfers leaving it. If either quota is exhausted, the transfer cannot proceed, even when the official transfer period is still running.

Available transfer capacity is updated every hour on the hour. Players who miss an opportunity may be able to apply during a later application round. However, NC also warns that servers receiving excessive transfer requests may have their transfers closed for the remainder of the event.

In other words, October 21 or October 28 should not be treated as a guaranteed last chance. They are scheduled end dates, not promises that every destination will remain available until the final minute.

Why Moving With Friends Could Become Complicated

For an individual player, discovering that a preferred server is full is inconvenient. For an organised group of friends or a Legion hoping to relocate together, it is rather more serious.

Imagine arranging for several players to move to the same destination, only to discover that its transfer quota has been exhausted after the first few applications. Some characters may already have moved while others remain behind. There is no guarantee that everyone can simply try again immediately.

This is particularly relevant given the separation between Early Access and Launch Servers. Characters cannot freely move between these two server categories, and transfers must remain within the same region and faction.

NC has already expanded the Global infrastructure repeatedly to accommodate demand. Europe recently received the new Nathara and Tassin server pair, while North America East gained Hithanya and Nemon. More available worlds provide additional choices, but they do not guarantee unlimited transfers into any particular destination.

There is something wonderfully typical of MMORPGs about all this. The community spends weeks complaining that its friends are scattered across different servers, and when the opportunity finally arrives to reunite everyone, the problem becomes getting everybody through the same door.

When Can European Players Transfer?

For European players, NC lists two daily application windows:

  • 12:00–16:00 CEST/CET
  • 18:00–22:00 CEST/CET

The first transfer window on October 14 had a revised opening time of 12:30 CEST following maintenance. Subsequent windows follow the published regional schedule unless NC announces additional changes.

Early Access transfers are scheduled from October 14 until maintenance on October 21. Launch Server transfers follow from October 21 until maintenance on October 28. Remember that Europe changes from summer time to winter time on October 25.

Players can check availability through Shop > Server Transfer. If a destination cannot accept transfers, the interface displays a notification. Reaching an application window does not override a server's capacity restriction.

What Should You Do Before Applying?

The sensible approach is to choose your destination early, coordinate with friends and prepare your characters before the application window opens. NC permits one server transfer per account during the event, so it is worth getting the details right the first time.

Check that your characters are level 10 or higher, leave your Legion, clear outstanding Market transactions, collect pending mail and move anything valuable out of Server Storage. Items left there will not follow your characters automatically.

Players still deciding where to move can consult our AION 2 Global Launch Server List for an overview of the faction-specific worlds. Just remember that being listed as a server does not mean it currently has transfer capacity.

Most importantly, do not assume that an unsuccessful application means the entire transfer system is broken. Your current server may have reached its outgoing limit, your destination may have reached its incoming limit, or you may simply be outside the scheduled application hours.

NC's latest warning makes one thing clear: free server transfers are an opportunity, not a reservation. The developer is trying to prevent population problems from becoming even worse, which is understandable after AION 2's enormous Global launch.

For players, however, the practical lesson is considerably simpler. If you have already decided where you want to live in Atreia, it might be wise to move before the neighbours take all the available space.

And unlike real estate, there is no estate agent you can blame afterward.
