AION 2 Pet Souls Now Drop in Dungeons

There was a time when collecting pets in an MMORPG meant finding something adorable, giving it a ridiculous name, and watching it follow you into increasingly dangerous situations. AION 2 has rather different ideas. Behind those charming little creatures sits an entire character progression system, complete with permanent statistical bonuses and enough collecting to keep even the most dedicated adventurer occupied.

And now NC is making part of that collection considerably more accessible. With the November 4, 2026 update, certain AION 2 Pet Souls that were previously exclusive to Pet Chests can also drop directly from Expedition and Transcendence Dungeons. It is a small change buried among much larger patch announcements, but for players developing their Pet and Genus Insight collections, it could be one of the more useful improvements.

Which AION 2 Pet Souls Can Now Drop in Dungeons?

According to NC's official November 4 Global patch notes, selected Pet Souls previously obtainable only through Pet Chests have been added to Expedition and Transcendence dungeon rewards. This introduces another acquisition route for creatures that previously depended on a more restricted reward source.

There is, however, an important limitation to the announcement. NC has not published a complete list of the affected pets, their individual drop rates, or which specific dungeons and difficulties contain each Soul. The developer also does not clarify whether the new drops are tied to particular enemies or reward cubes.

Players should therefore avoid assuming that every Expedition or Transcendence dungeon now offers every previously chest-exclusive Pet Soul. Our AION 2 Dungeon and PvE Guide explains the different dungeon systems, while the Transcendence Dungeon Guide provides a closer look at that particular category of content.

Interestingly, the same patch also adds dungeon difficulty information to the game's Item Source interface. That should provide players with more useful information when investigating where equipment and other rewards can be obtained. Until the complete Pet Soul drop tables are confirmed, checking the current in-game information remains preferable to relying on speculative farming lists.

NC has also improved Exploration Dungeon rewards in the November 4 update, including additional enhancement materials in three specific dungeons. However, the Pet Soul announcement does not establish that every Exploration difficulty is eligible for the newly added drops.

Why Pet Soul Dungeon Drops Matter for Genus Insight

What makes the change particularly interesting is that AION 2's pets are considerably more than decorative companions. As explained in our Pet and Genus Insight Guide, collecting five Souls unlocks an ordinary pet, while additional Souls allow players to develop its individual Pet Insight levels.

That progression contributes to Genus Insight, where players can develop permanent character bonuses. Consequently, completing a pet collection is not simply about having a small army of strange creatures following you around Atreia. It can contribute to meaningful character development.

This is also where an important distinction comes into play. Pet Souls and Soul Crystals are not the same resource. Pet Souls unlock and develop individual creatures, while Soul Crystals are spent alongside Kina in Genus Analysis to pursue permanent statistical improvements. Our Hidden Cube Guide covers another activity connected to obtaining Soul Crystals.

Allowing selected Pet Souls to drop in dungeons potentially connects pet collection with activities players already complete for equipment, materials and progression. Instead of treating every missing creature as a separate collection problem, players may now make progress towards certain pets while pursuing their ordinary PvE goals.

There are still practical limitations. Valuable dungeon reward claims are governed by systems such as Odyle Energy, which we explain in our Odyle Energy Guide. NC has not specified whether the newly added Pet Soul drops require an Energy-funded claim, so players should verify the reward conditions before spending resources specifically to farm them.

Without confirmed drop rates, it is too early to calculate how quickly the new system will accelerate Pet Insight progression. But the direction is encouraging. MMORPG progression works particularly well when different activities support one another, rather than forcing players to choose between improving their equipment and developing another collection.

And if defeating a terrifying dungeon boss now brings you one step closer to unlocking a particularly adorable creature, that seems entirely appropriate for AION. After all, nothing says heroic fantasy quite like risking your life against ancient monsters because your pet collection is missing a fluffy little specimen.
