AION 2 Server Transfers Resume After Emergency Suspension – Level 45 Now Required

Moving house has never been particularly enjoyable. There are boxes to pack, possessions to organise and the unpleasant discovery that something important has been left behind in a cupboard.

Moving to another server in an MMORPG should, in theory, be considerably easier. No furniture, no removal company and very little danger of dropping a wardrobe down the stairs.

AION 2, however, appears determined to preserve the authentic moving experience.

NC has announced that AION 2 Global server transfers are resuming on October 27, 2026, following an emergency suspension on October 26. But there is a major change: characters must now be level 45 to qualify, replacing the previous minimum requirement of level 10.

And with the current free transfer period scheduled to end before maintenance on October 28, the timing is hardly ideal for players who have spent the past week preparing to move lower-level characters.

It is an unexpectedly dramatic final chapter in a server transfer programme that was originally supposed to help adventurers reunite with friends, escape crowded worlds and settle into their preferred communities.

Server Transfers Suspended on October 26, Then Reopened With New Rules

The trouble began on October 26 when NC issued a brief announcement explaining that server transfers were being placed on hold while the company investigated an unspecified issue.

The announcement offered no detailed technical explanation. It did not identify particular servers, explain whether transfers had caused problems with character data or provide an estimated time for restoring the service.

For players preparing to move, the immediate consequence was simple enough: the transfer system was temporarily unavailable.

NC subsequently announced that transfers would resume, starting with Europe at 12:00 CET on October 27. North America East, North America West and South America would follow during their next scheduled transfer windows.

But the reopening notice contained another announcement that was considerably more significant than the temporary interruption.

The minimum transfer level had been increased from 10 to 45.

Minimum Character Level Level 10 Level 45
Base Transfer Cost 0 Quna 0 Quna
Transfer Limit Once per account Once per account
Region and Faction Must remain the same Must remain the same
Current Launch Server Deadline October 28 maintenance October 28 maintenance

NC has also updated its official Server Transfer Products notice to reflect the new level requirement.

What remains unclear is why the minimum level was raised so dramatically. NC has not explained the nature of the issue that prompted the suspension, nor has it confirmed whether the higher level requirement was introduced specifically to resolve that problem.

It would be tempting to speculate about character transfers, economic exploitation or suspicious account activity. But without an explanation from the developer, those remain possibilities rather than established facts.

What we do know is that the rules have changed, and that the change arrives at the very end of the event.

What Does the New Level 45 Requirement Mean for Players?

Under the original rules, players could transfer characters from level 10 onwards. That made the service useful not only to established adventurers but also to newer players who had discovered that their friends were playing on another server.

A character at level 15 or 25 might not have accumulated a particularly impressive collection of equipment, but that was hardly the point. The free transfer programme offered an opportunity to move without abandoning character progress and starting all over again.

Now those players face a much higher barrier.

Level 45 is AION 2 Global's current Season 1 level cap. In other words, the new requirement effectively restricts the service to characters that have reached the maximum available level.

There is a particular irony here. Server transfers were introduced partly because choosing the correct world during an MMORPG launch is notoriously difficult. Now, players who made that decision incorrectly may need to finish levelling before they can correct it.

Our original AION 2 Server Transfer Guide explained the level 10 requirement alongside the other conditions. That requirement has now been superseded by NC's October 27 update.

Players should also be careful with additional characters. The updated official notice states that characters included in a transfer must meet the level 45 requirement. Do not assume that a level 45 main character automatically makes lower-level alternatives eligible to move alongside it.

For anyone who has already reached level 45, the process remains broadly familiar. Transfers still cost 0 Quna, subject to additional character slot costs, and players remain restricted to compatible servers within their region and faction.

But there are several other requirements worth checking.

  • Level 45: Characters being transferred must meet the new minimum level.
  • Location: The character must be in a village, not a dungeon, the Abyss or a Spacetime Rift.
  • Legion: Characters must leave their Legion and have no pending membership applications.
  • Duty Missions: Active Duty Missions must be completed.
  • Market: Outstanding listings, purchased items and unclaimed proceeds must be collected.
  • Mail and Shop Storage: Unclaimed rewards and items can prevent a transfer.
  • Server Storage: Its contents do not move with the characters. Important items and Kina must be moved elsewhere first.

Our Launch Server Transfer Checklist covers these practical preparations in greater detail.

One especially important detail remains unchanged: the source server's character names do not simply follow you without complications. Transferred characters receive a temporary name and must choose a new one when logging in on the destination server. If someone already owns your preferred name, you may have to settle for an alternative.

And few things capture the spirit of an MMORPG quite like defeating enormous mythical creatures for several weeks, only to lose your character name to somebody who created an account ten minutes earlier.

Free Transfers Still End October 28 – Unless NC Changes the Schedule

The timing is what makes this situation particularly awkward.

NC divided its initial transfer programme into two periods. Early Access servers received their transfer window from October 14 to October 21, while regular Launch Servers became eligible on October 21.

The second period is currently scheduled to end before the regular maintenance on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, in Europe.

At the time of writing, NC has not announced an extension to compensate for the October 26 suspension or the new level requirement.

That means players should work from the existing deadline rather than assume more transfer days will be added automatically.

For Europe, the normal daily application windows are:

  • 12:00–16:00 CET
  • 18:00–22:00 CET

These windows apply while the service is available and the transfer period remains active. They should not be interpreted as a guarantee that transfers will still be possible after the October 28 maintenance begins.

We already highlighted this deadline in our October 28 Last-Chance Guide, which also covers the conclusion of Conquerors of the Abyss and the temporary Odyle Energy purchase allowances.

Players who are already eligible and have decided where they want to move should check the transfer interface during the remaining application windows.

There is another restriction beyond character level: individual servers have limits on how many players can transfer into or out of them.

NC updates the available transfer capacity hourly, and a destination can stop accepting characters even before the overall event ends.

Our earlier Server Transfer Capacity Warning explains why having a valid character and an open application window does not necessarily guarantee a successful move.

For organised Legions, the new level requirement makes coordination even more important. A group hoping to relocate together should verify that every participating character meets the updated rules, that the destination still accepts transfers and that everyone has completed the necessary preparation.

Otherwise, the result could be rather unfortunate: half the group arriving on the new server while the rest remain behind, staring at a transfer button that refuses to cooperate.

A Sudden Change to a Service That Was Supposed to Make Life Easier

There is a reasonable argument for requiring server transfers to meet certain conditions. AION 2 has already experienced substantial pressure on its server populations, and uncontrolled movement between worlds could create additional problems.

Restrictions on factions, regions, account limits and destination capacity are therefore understandable.

But introducing a substantially higher character-level requirement immediately before the end of a promotional transfer period is a different matter.

Players who had prepared according to the published level 10 rules may now discover that they no longer qualify. Some may have deliberately waited until the final days to coordinate with friends or finish collecting items, only to find that the conditions have changed.

There may be a sound technical reason for the decision. The problem is that NC has not explained one.

That leaves the community with a rule change, a rapidly approaching deadline and very little information about whether the restriction will remain in place during future transfer events.

For now, the practical advice is straightforward. If your characters are level 45 and you intend to move, check your eligibility and destination capacity as soon as possible. If your characters are below level 45, the updated rules do not currently allow them to transfer.

And if you are already happy with your current server, there is no reason to relocate merely because the service is free. A familiar Legion, reliable friends and an established community can be worth considerably more than a new address.

Server transfers are supposed to help players find their place in Atreia.

After the latest update, however, moving house has become an endgame activity.

One suspects the Shugos would approve. They have always understood the value of making simple transactions unnecessarily complicated.
